1/23/19: A Weekend in New Orleans & Stranded at STL

Hi Ya’ll.

I know I haven’t written in forever but here I am 🙂

#WHODAT

A friend of mine, yes gab – it’s you, reached out and said that they missed my blog. It’s been almost a year but I think I’m at the point where I can finally write again. I don’t really care if anyone reads it, but if you are, I appreciate you taking your valuable time out of your day to listen to a twenty year-old talk about her first-world problems. Between the Saints getting robbed at the playoff game I attended this past Sunday or the fact I’m in a lounge for the next six hours, waiting for a plane to take me home, I am really not sure where to begin; however, I think it’s time we catch up.

My new apartment, that I share with the adorable man above, is located in downtown New Orleans, approximately two blocks from the Mercedes Superdome. Waking up in the city on game day is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. At 9 a.m., I looked out of our window and saw streets full of people in their black and gold attire. In New Orleans, you’re allowed to drink alcohol OUTDOORS – wherever. whenever. They also do this thing where you can ask for a to-go cup for your ALCOHOLIC beverage!!!! I grew up in Toledo, OH… That is NOT an acceptable, or legal, thing to do. (Last night, I was walking Pixie with Nick and passed a lady, walking her dog, with a glass of wine in her hand.) INSANE concept to get used to, but I’m not complaining.

Since we live two blocks from the stadium, we walked to the game with a couple of friends. My favorite thing about game days is definitely listening to the kids go HARD on their buckets. I like to think it’s one of the many sounds you hear in the city. Champions Square was insanely packed, the energy was insane. Inside the Superdome, aside from the refs who were probably paid off to give the rams a win, it was crazy loud. It’s Wednesday and my ears are still ringing.

Moving to the city, which I officially do next weekend, is everything I’ve ever wanted. It’s really a dream come true. (I’m still waiting for someone to wake me up.)  I’m with someone who puts me first, always, and never makes me question my self-worth.  I am a mom to the best pup ever, like seriously I could cry I love her so much. I am finally happy, and let’s be honest – I deserve this.

I lost a lot this past year, only to gain SO much more. I am leaving a job I love doing, staff members who I now consider family, clients I adore so much, to move on and up in my life. Not only am I leaving my work family, I am leaving my real family to pursue my dreams a thousand miles away. I am confident that this decision is the best one I could possibly make for myself at this point in time, and so excited to see where it takes me. For those who have found out before this post, I am so thankful for your support. You are making this journey so much easier on me.

Stranded in STL

The only reason my boyfriend was okay with dropping me off at the airport at four o’clock in the morning was because it was the last time we’d ever have to do that. I always fly Southwest, two free checked bags – how could you not, but there’s always a connecting flight. I don’t ever mind, because it’s always right away; however, today is a different story. I was sleeping waiting for my second flight when a flight attendant rudely interrupted my sleep to tell me my flight was delayed four hours – only to be cancelled fifteen minutes after. I’ve been stuck in St. Louis since 8 this morning and my next flight takes off at 4:30… Luckily for me, I discovered a lounge called Wingtips. It’s $38 for an all-day pass – this includes free food and beverages, along with your own power outlet in a quiet cubby, all to myself and away from the rest of the world. This is the best place to spend a layover. They even have private bathrooms. The food is glorious and the beverages are great – I’m running on four hours of sleep and I feel fabulous.

Thank you for reading and I promise the next time I write won’t take a year.
